The third round of the Monte Carlo Masters is here, and by the end of the day, we’ll be down to just eight. Monaco plays a lot of great sports, and two of the best players in the world, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, are both ready to take to the court.
22:30 CET – Then there were eight! The quarter-finals are set, and there are plenty of reasons to be excited.
Can Sinner and Alcaraz advance to their first meeting of the year? Can Fonseca make a real statement by claiming the biggest win of his career against Zverev? And can Vacherot continue to send his crowd wild?
All of this will be answered tomorrow, so be sure to join us on our new tracker in the morning to keep up with it all!
21:23 CET – The final match of the day saw home hero Valentin Vacherot keep his dream – the biggest of his life – of winning the Monte Carlo title alive, as he fought back from the bench to beat Hubert Hurkacz 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-4.
It was a tight battle, with the first and third sets lasting more than an hour, and Vacherot was under pressure more often than not, facing 13 break points, but he saved 11 of them and took four of his eight.
His reward is a quarter-final against De Minaur who will be relishing his chances, in good form and with the crowd behind him.
18:25 CET – Alex De Minaur reached the Monte Carlo quarterfinals for the second year in a row, overcoming the challenge of Belgian Alexander Blockx, 7-5, 7-6 (4).
It was a great performance from both players, and Blockx is very impressive this weekend in Monaco. However, the reliable De Minaur showed his experience, playing the big points better.
He will face the winner of Hubert Hurkacz and his lover Valentin Vacherot, next!
18:07 CET – Carlos Alcaraz survived a strong test from clay court expert Tomas Martin Etcheverry, who fought Argentina 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in two hours and 25 minutes.
The defending champion in Monte Carlo was inconsistent, and his performance from second to first was unusual. He had a whopping 45 winners, but also a staggering 47 unforced errors.
The world number one continues his quest to maintain his place at the top of the world rankings, winning his 15th straight match on clay.
16:13 CET – Carlos Alcaraz flew through his first set against Tomas Martin Etcheverry, winning 6-1 in just 26 minutes and losing just five points in his performance.
If he wins, he will face Alexander Bublik, and the eighth seed recently secured a comfortable 6-2, 7-5 win over Miami runner-up Jiri Lehecka.
15:26 CET – The sinner is saved! The Italian rallied, worked quickly, and took advantage of some adversity for Machac to beat the Czech player 6-1, 6-7, 6-3.
His serve was back to a terrifying level of decision-making, and his first percentage rose to 74%, from 46% in the second, and only two points from the first were lost.
As a result, he became only the fourth player to win his first 14 Masters 1000 matches in a season, after Pete Sampras, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Not a bad company to keep.
14:53 CET – Tomas Machac has just won the second set against Jannik Sinner, meaning that the recent record of 37 consecutive team wins at the 1000 level, since the Paris Masters at the end of last year, is over!
The Sinner seems to really struggle physically for whatever reason, and if Machac can continue this form, he could pull off a major upset.

14:30 CET – Felix Auger-Aliassime continues his good run in Monte Carlo, making it to the last eight after his opponent, Casper Ruud, unfortunately retired from the match after 7-5, 2-2.
It was a very tight and entertaining first round, with Auger-Aliassime fighting back from an early 3-0 deficit. However, Ruud pulled out with a leg injury in the second game of the second set and was unable to continue.
A Canadian has now reached the quarter-finals in each of the 1000 events, becoming the first Canadian to do so, and the 13th active player. He will face either Jannik Sinner or Tomac Machac next.
13:05 CET – Alexander Zverev has set up a very attractive quarter-final meeting with Joao Fonseca in Monte Carlo after a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Zizou Bergs.
Zverev struggled towards the end of the match, failing to serve on the first chance. However, he was too strong for his opponent and was immediately broken again before finishing things off.
He is the German clay court quarterback’s 14th in the 1000 ranking, and according to Opta, only Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and David Ferrer have achieved more.
12:28 CET – Joao Fonseca is into his first Masters 1000 quarter-final after an emphatic 6-3, 6-2 win against Matteo Berrettini.
It was a very strong performance from the 19-year-old, scoring points from abroad after hitting 70% of first serves. However, Berrettini struggled throughout the game, completing just 45% of his first serve and committing 24 unforced errors. He was nowhere near his strength.
According to Opta, Fonseca has become the youngest player to reach the Monte Carlo quarterfinals since Rafael Nadal in 2005. The Brazilian will face third seed Alexander Zverev or Zizou Bergs next.
11:04 CET – At that time, the players go to the stadium and the game will continue in the next few minutes.

The game is set to continue 11:00 CETwith the third seed Alexander Zverev taking on Zizou Bergs, and Joao Fonseca clashed with Matteo Berrettini in what will be a real competition. Both players will have tons of support, and the atmosphere will be great.
Court Rainier III now sees Jannik Moetsalibe continue his quest for a world title against Tomas Machac, before Carlos Alcaraz looks to stop him when he comes against Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
In the main court final, local favorite Valentin Vacherot, who defeated last year’s winner Lorenzo Musetti in the second round, faces Hubert Hurkacz.
After Fonseca vs Berrettini on Court des Princes, sixth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime faces a very tough test against clay expert Casper Ruud, who looked comfortable with the red dirt under his feet in his victory over Corentin Moutet.
Jiri Lehecka will now look to continue his good form after reaching the final in Miami with strong performances on clay, but eighth seed Alexander Bublik stands in his way.
Finally, Alex de Minaur goes head-to-head with a surprise package Alexander Blockx, who enters the third party after passing through the qualifiers.
