SRC is proving to be a fertile breeding ground for young talents
Super Rygbi Cymru is in its second season and is already proving to be a fertile breeding ground for future professional players.
Better aligned with the players’ path than the old Welsh Premiership, the competition is beginning to show its importance and there is growing hope that it will continue to strengthen in the coming years. With Cardiff, Dragons, Ospreys and Scarlets all operating within tight budgets, venues are increasingly looking to the SRC as a stepping stone for players entering the professional game.
Here are seven players who impressed at SRC and could make their mark on the professional game in the next few seasons.
Lewis Edwards
The Wales U20s international has been outstanding for Swansea and will no doubt be a key player for the Ospreys in the coming years.
Edwards is near the top of the SRC charts for shipments, cables and meters manufactured.
He is strong under the ball and defensively, and his positional play is excellent.
Edwards is also a dangerous breaking field runner who can unlock defenses with his running angles. He is strong physically and excellent under the high ball.

Kian Hire
Big things are expected of the former Wales U20s tighthead, who has been learning the ropes with Swansea and training with the Ospreys.
Hire is a powerful player and the Ospreys and Wales age group coaches are confident he will become a devastating player at professional level.
The Ospreys could really use a Hire kick next season, with 35-year-old Tom Botha nearing the end of his career.
Harry Ackerman
The 21-year-old center is a former Wales U20s manager and would have continued his development had he not broken both legs back in 2024.
Ackerman has been outstanding for Newport RFC and has made a few appearances for the Dragons.
He is a strong center who carries well and distributes the ball effectively. He is also a wise protector.
Expect Ackerman to get more playing time for the Dragons over the next few seasons.
Did Evans
At 6ft 5in and 18st 5lb, Evans is a physical specimen with the size and strength to make a real impact on the professional game in the future.
Evans is a classic lock in that he does the dirty work behind the scenes that allows others to succeed.
He is also a powerful carrier in tight exchanges, capable of making valuable post-contact yards.
The 20-year-old would have seen game time for the Scarlets in the United Rugby Championship this season had it not been for injury, which ruled him out of the U20s Nations League, but Evans is highly rated.
With Jake Ball and Sam Lousi nearing the end of their careers, the Scarlets could use Evans to kick next season.
Elijah Evans
The 20-year-old center has excelled for Cardiff in the SRC this season and looks set for good things.
Evans is a product of Pentyrch RFC and played for Cardiff Met in BUCS Super Rugby last season.
Cardiff’s rising star is a very powerful runner who tends to hit good angles, and you can almost guarantee at least a couple of clean lines break the game.
He is also a physical player who can get over the edge, while he reads the game well defensively and his distribution skills are also very good.
Harry Wilde
The former Wales U20 outside half is a very talented footballer and big things are expected of him.
Wilde is still learning his trade for Cardiff RFC at the SRC, but he is a man with a very high ceiling.
Turning back the clock to March 2025, Wilde was in fine form as he guided Wales U20s to a famous victory over England U20s at the Arms Park.
Wilde has a very good passing game, plays well to the touchline and has a lot of vision.
He is a triple threat player who can bring others into the game, as his control of the game improves.
Callum Sheedy is the first-choice outside-half for Cardiff, who are also interested in bringing Jarrod Evans back to the Arms Park, but it seems that Ioan Lloyd is being considered as a back-up tool rather than an out-and-out 10.
Wilde is talented enough to enjoy a successful professional career.
Callum Woolley
The 20-year-old is still in his prime, but the 6ft 4in wing has athletic talent and is someone the Scarlets coaching staff will be looking to develop over the next few seasons.
Woolley has done well for Carmarthen Quins and is a strong scorer, although he needs to improve in other areas of his game.
“His athletic ability is through the roof,” former Scarlets academy and pathway manager Gareth Williams told WalesOnline in September 2024.
“It looked at one time that we missed him when he was recruited to City College of Oxford just over two years ago.” I had to persuade him, but I was determined to see him again in that place.
I have watched him play football in the South Ceredigion Junior Leagues and always thought he would be good on the rugby field. I am very happy with his ability.
Woolley also represents the Great Britain 7s team.
