Huddersfield Giants men’s stars on injury comeback and Luke Robinson welcomed – Deep in Rugby League

Huddersfield Giants manager Adam Clune returned to Super League after helping his side to a shock victory over Wigan Warriors on Saturday.

The half-back scored the try of the afternoon as he rounded off a well-worked team to seal the win. The game was Clune’s first since season 14 last season, having been injured, along with most of his teammates, in the past 12 months.

He, along with full-back Niall Evalds returned from injury, while Connor Wrench and Jacob Douglas made their first team starts after signing in recent weeks.

Clune was awarded the Sky Sports Player of the Year award for his efforts, and praised his third team for their outstanding effort in Claret and Gold.

“Personally, I’m very happy to be back again in the field,” Clune told psychologists Stuart Pyke and Jon Wells.[Happy for] Niall Evalds also, he had bad problems with us it featured the debut of Connor Wrench and Jacob Douglas from St Helens, I’m very happy to be back on the field.”

It has been a busy week for the Giants, who were under the leadership of interim manager Liam Finn at the weekend after the club parted ways with Luke Robinson on March 22. Many believe that Robinson has been dealt an unfair blow in his Huddersfield career, with injuries forcing him to be assessed on a low-strength side instead of his best 13.

Saturday’s result shows how much having the first back to play together can affect the performance, and if he was given another week, he would be in the training box seeing the rewards of his patience, instead of staying at home.

Speaking about the week, Clune said: “Overall, [it’s] quite a bit to be honest. Losing ‘Robbo’ at the beginning of the week, I would have liked it to be part of this, but that is the nature of the beast and we have to move on.

“But, a A very good performance from the team and hopefully it will continue to improve from here. ”

Huddersfield Giants skipper praises players after Wigan Warriors win

Commenting on how the spine developed, the former Newcastle Knights man added: “THat is the first competitive game we played together like the back. We didn’t play one game last year and obviously we have it a try against York in pre-season, but that was our first competitive game.

“OhIt’s obviously not a good set-up, but hopefully we can stay on the field now keep working on joining us. ”

Asked if this could be the game that ignites Huddersfield’s 2026 season, Clune said: “Yes, hopefully. Look, it’s just a win and get that first win is always nice, getting the monkey off your back.

“It was a good thing to live in, against a team as good as Wigan, you can always fall when they try a little faster.

“I know it’s normal, but one game at a time, we’re going to have a tough game next In the week against York, we have been playing good football and obviously we have that challenge cup a week off where we can start building as a team.

“It’s still early in the month season, so if we can continue to build from there, hopefully we can get good results and many good performances. ”
