BIG produced a promising effort on first run at Redcar in November, finishing well under riding hands and heels, looking green when first asked to take. He is likely to go ahead and vote on Invincible Boy, who is also trained by Richard and Peter Fahey. The latter disappointed in a difficult place at Doncaster on his second start, but made a promising loan when finishing first at York, and still has potential.
THE ARABIAN DESERT he didn’t win as a juvenile, but showed useful form, missing out by a neck to the York maiden before finishing second in the Grade 3 Horris Hill Stakes at Newbury. He’s setting a clear standard based on his Newbury effort and, with a promising mile step to match, he’s got a good chance to get off the mark. Haayimm has given him something to work with in his third start at Beverley last year and could be a prospect.
ALPHA CHOPPER he has been in encouraging form when third at Newcastle last month when he started Roger Fell, the best of the long-distance runners. You are running from the same sign here and should give another good report. Kokanee returns the same mark he denied to Beverley when he reappeared last season, so the other deserves the honor.
REWARD made a successful start for Charlie Clover when he came in a mile and a quarter handicap here in September and added several more wins to his tally before the year was out. He improved his excellent record at this stable by winning over a mile at Lingfield last month on his return from an 11-week lay-off and looks like a big contender here. Latin was an all-weather winner over the winter and in good form as a close third at Southwell last week, so he could prove a big threat.
LITTLE CAGE he improved his effort for his first stable when he started successfully for Mick Appleby at Chelmsford in February and ran in the same position when third credit in a significant handicap at Wolverhampton last month. The nature of that race has been reinforced by the winner, Dark Ace, who continues to score again, so he deserves a lot of respect from the same position here, especially with the use of cheekpieces that can be the cause of further improvement. Atomic Force comes in looking for a hat-trick, having won handicaps at Lingfield and Chelmsford, so he could pose a big threat.
STARSHINE SAME he has been out of action since September 2024, but has been given a handicap and is 4lb lighter than the underdog at Hamilton on his last outing. He has joined Olly Murphy since he was last seen and is back on the field with his strong yardage continuing in good form, so he looks to be worth it. Ashdown Forest doesn’t have many miles on the clock and is respected on his return to the Flat. He has been cheeked for the first time in order to bring about great efforts.
COOLING WATER he was given a break and was set up ahead of his handicap debut at Newcastle last month, and produced a much-improved display from the mark. He still looked lively all round, but the penny dropped well after the turn, and he continued well to lead 100 yards out and win by a length and a quarter. He has a lot to offer, so he wants to defy the 5lb high mark. Trucial Pearl has started four times this year and was beaten by a head at Chelmsford on his first start, so he has solid claims.
Lucius Aurelius he finished down the field at Southwell last time out, but he may have had a line added to that problem, as he was caught on his heels for a long time and missed the chance. He seems to be in good form, based on his choice of turf last year, so he could have a chance. Canaria Queen enjoyed a good campaign last year, winning three times, and is still in contention and is respected for his resurgence.
