Chris Davies was speaking to BirminghamLive from his Birmingham City press conference on Wednesday afternoon
Chris Davies says he was in talks with Knighthead during the international break and talks have even turned to the summer transfer window.
Birmingham City are bottom of the Championship table and have yet to play in the top six – despite signing 18 players throughout the season and handing over £15million in January.
Now hopes of making the play-offs have evaporated, with Davies facing questions over his future as manager but it appears to be business as usual behind the scenes.

“Obviously I’m not talking to Tom Wagner at the moment, but I’m talking to the owners regularly, we have calls and meetings about how the team is doing, how the team is playing, the progress of the team, everything about the work I’m doing and the direction of the team,” said Davies.
“That continues during the international break and will continue for the next few weeks.
“When you get to the end of the season you all look down on yourself and say, ‘This is the season we had and this is where we need to go…’
“These talks are happening but they are very much about the here and now, then we start thinking about the summer transfer window – we have discussed it for the last few weeks, to assess the players we have, who will leave, who we would like to bring in.
“The good news for the club is that we don’t have too much money in the summer like 20 players coming in and out in the first season, last season 12 coming in and out. In January we had a few more.
“We’ll get to the stage, hopefully in the summer, where it’s six and six out,
Communication is always there with the owners, they may live in America but obviously they have a lot of communication and in Tom’s absence they try to move things forward.
If Davies is the man in charge, few changes are likely. The Blues will lose Brighton loanees James Beadle and Ibrahim Osman, while there appears to be little desire to make Tommy Doyle’s loan from Wolves a permanent move.
The Blues have the option to make Colombian midfielder Jhon Solis a permanent addition and will be reviewing the financials of a deal with Girona.
Davies added: “We have players who because of the loan situation we don’t think will be there next year. There are players who have been here for a long time and we know what to expect from those players. There are new ones who need to make their stamp. There are those who really need to prove that they can still be there.
“My job is to make sure the commitment is there until the final whistle against Portsmouth. That’s my job and what I’m driving now.”
No doubt a poor run of results in the last seven games will not reflect well on Davies or his players when Knighthead’s final test of the season takes place in May.
Eleven points from the run-in should be achieved and that would give the Blues their best Championship success since finishing fourth under Chris Hughton in 2012. Two tenths under Gary Rowett is the Blues’ best effort in the last 14 years.
What is the best situation?
Davies replied: “It looks like we’re not going to make the play-offs, it looks like we’re on course to finish as high as the club has done for 14 years in terms of finishing in the top-10, so there’s one thing we’ve got to look at.
Moreover, I want to make sure that our performances are very good.
“Playing with more tempo, more energy, and that will give us confidence going forward.
“We need to finish as much as we can, what number I don’t know, and put in performances that we can be proud of.”
